Where a notary is
actually required
Most sites flatten this. In nearly every state that "requires notarization," the requirement attaches to the title, not to the bill of sale.
Louisiana is the exception that matters. It is the one verified state where the requirement attaches to the bill of sale itself — an original notarised bill of sale stating the actual consideration, on top of the title being assigned before a notary.
Anywhere not listed here, the app returns unverified and points you at your own DMV. That's the correct answer, not a gap: an unnecessary notary warning costs a phone call, and a missing one costs a rejected transfer at the counter.

Before you buy
Is a bill of sale enough to transfer a vehicle?
On its own, usually not. In most states the title assignment is what actually transfers ownership, and the bill of sale is the record of the transaction that sits alongside it. Louisiana is the standout exception, where an original notarised bill of sale stating the actual consideration is required in its own right. The app tells you which situation you're in for the states it has verified, and sends you to your DMV where it hasn't.
Do I need a notary?
It depends on the state, and more often than people think the answer is "for the title, not for this document." Arizona and Washington let a state office witness the signing instead of a notary. Kentucky, North Carolina and Pennsylvania want the title signed before one. The app prints a notary block only where a notary is genuinely part of the transaction.
What's the difference between the two prices?
One Filing is $4.99, charged once, and covers a single complete document. Monthly is $11.99 and covers unlimited documents for 30 days — it is the only option that renews, and it keeps renewing until you cancel. At three or more documents a month the monthly plan is cheaper.
What happens to my documents if I cancel?
They stay. Cancelling stops the renewal; it doesn't reach back and take away paperwork you've already executed. Everything in your Vault and Ledger remains readable and printable.
Is there an Android version?
Not yet. QiK B.O.S is an iPhone app, iOS 17 and up, portrait only. It was built for the phone that's actually in your hand in a driveway, and adding another platform properly is real work rather than a checkbox.
Does it work without signal?
Yes. You can draft and sign with no connection at all — the document is written locally and syncs when you're back on, and a signature upload that didn't make it retries on its own.
Is this legal advice?
No. QiK B.O.S is not a law firm. It produces a document from what you enter — it doesn't review your transaction, verify a VIN, confirm an odometer reading, or check that a seller owns what they're selling. Where a state's requirements have been confirmed against that state's own motor vehicle authority, the app states them; where they haven't, it says so.
What do you collect about me?
What appears on a bill of sale — the parties' names, addresses, phone numbers and email addresses, the item, the price and the signatures — plus your account details. No tracking, no analytics SDKs, no advertising SDKs, no advertising identifier. Deleting your account erases all of it.
